GTEC's Newest Tech Startup Psigenics Relocated to Gainesville from New Mexico

Gainesville Ranked No. 47 in CNNMoney.com's List of "100 Best Places to Live and Launch

Anyone who knows University of Florida football knows that the girls are the fairest and the boys are the squarest.

Now, readers of CNNMoney.com and The Progressive Farmer magazine will also know that the business climate is among the best for launching a company and that the farmland surrounding Alachua County is among the best to locate a home and a farm.

Gainesville ranked No. 47 in CNNMoney.com's list of "100 best places to live and launch," and Gilchrist County came in ninth in The Progressive Farmer's list of the best places to live in rural America.

The Gainesville ranking came as no surprise to Scott Wilber, who scoured the nation for a place to locate his startup technology company, Psigenics, before moving into the Gainesville Technology Enterprise Center about a month ago.

Wilber, who said he has started several successful companies in Boulder, Colo., and Roswell, N.M., during the past 30 years, said he liked Gainesville's low cost of living and the resources available at UF, such as the ability to do research at its library.

Wilber also said he was looking for a place where city leaders were supportive of technology companies, saying the existence of resources like GTEC, which offers assistance to startup technology companies like his, was a plus for Gainesville.
