President Obama Features Gainesville's Sinmat

March 24, 2009

President Obama FeatureS Gainesville Tech Startup Sinmat, Inc. at the “Investing In Our Clean Energy Future” Press Briefing

President Obama featured GTEC startup Sinmat, Inc. CEO Deepika Singh, Ph.D. at the “Investing In Our Clean Energy Future” press briefing.  Obama met with clean energy entrepreneurs and leaders of the research community to discuss his strategy for building a clean energy economy and creating the industries and jobs of the future.

Obama said that if necessity is the mother of invention, "at this moment of necessity we need you.  We need inventiveness."

Obama said their work on products such as electric cars and solar-tapping windows will enable the U.S. to end its dependence on foreign oil.  It also will help create jobs.  He outlined an energy program that draws on the administration's $787 billion stimulus package for $39 billion at the Department of Energy and $20 billion in tax incentives for clean energy.

The American Reinvestment Recovery Act and Obama’s FY10 budget dramatically increase investment in cutting-edge research, the development and deployment of clean energy technologies, and incentives for private sector R&D.  These investments will establish the foundation for America’s future economic prosperity, reduce the U.S. dependence on foreign oil, and help combat climate change.
