The City of Gainesville has begun the Evaluation Appraisal Report (EAR) process for the Comprehensive Plan--a plan mandated by the Florida Legislature and designed to help counties and municipalities map out growth. Recognizing that the economy has caused financing problems for some projects, the Florida Legislature passed Senate Bill 360, making it possible for local governments to extend permits and allow businesses to move forward with projects immediately after financing is secured.
Representatives from the Business Community Coalition (BCC) worked with City Commissioners and GRU to successfully reach a compromise on the implementation of extensions of utility permits in association with SB 360. Read More
