“It feels great. We were thrilled and surprised," said David Miller, Brice Business Group President. On September 10 of this year, the Brice Business Group won not one, but two awards at the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2008 Business of the Year Luncheon. They won Overall Small Business and Commitment to the Environment. “It was a huge honor to be recognized,” said Miller. The Brice Business Group is a family-owned development company that builds mixed-use neighborhoods with new single family houses, townhouses, restaurants, shopping and much more. One of the most interesting aspects of this company is their mixture of tradition with innovation. They are deeply involved in the Gainesville community’s needs and have a profound consideration for the environment that is not normally seen by a development company.
The Brice Business Group is not just any development company interested in building something generic and detached from the community. Actually, it is quite the opposite. They design to meet the daily needs of residents in the community. “We have a strong commitment to Gainesville, especially since we are a small business,” said Miller. Their constant ability and desire to advance and commitment to Gainesville is what makes Brice Business Group the ideal small business. “We wanted Brytan [one of Brice Business Group's developments] to be a different kind of place," said Miller. And, their longing to continually update themselves has produced some amazing results, such as the Brytlink, a fiber optic network wired into all living spaces and available to the development’s business owners.
Construction and development is not necessarily synonymous with the conservation of the environment, yet the Brice Business Group has been able to accomplish such as feat. They have received the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment) Silver Certification for homebuilding and are actively participating in a LEED neighborhood development program. “We have a strong commitment to designing eco-friendly," said Miller. He explains that green homes mean lower utility bills. “We want to help people’s pocketbooks as well as the environment," said Miller. Some energy bills are barely $100 for some customers. Not only is the Brice Business Group concerned about eco-friendly building, they are also active participants in conserving nature and land. They are fighting to conserve all types of wildlife from the Woodland Poppy Mallow to the Gopher Tortoise. The Brice Business Group understands the importance of sustainability and eco-friendly ways. “We have green standards which are part of the leading technology of the future," said Miller. The future seems bright for the Brice Business Group.
So, what has happened with the Brice Business Group since winning their two awards? Has anything changed? Although the economy may not be at its best right now, they have seen “large increases in shopping for homes, constructors researching our company and general interest," said Miller. The company is very proud to be part of the Gainesville community, “We have been a Chamber member for as long as I can remember and we know that the Chamber can help us to be cutting edge.” For more information on the Brice Business Group, visit: http://www.brytan.com/
