Florida Chamber President/CEO Mark Wilson Addresses Past Gainesville Area Chamber ChairsAugust 9th, 2016 by gainesvillechamber
Past Chairs of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors last week heard from Mark Wilson, President/CEO of the Florida Chamber of Commerce the Florida 2030 initiative, which aims to write the blueprint for Florida’s future. The Florida Chamber’s research shows that Florida will experience an influx six million new residents by 2030, and a resulting need for 2 million new jobs. Additionally, the Florida Chamber’s research projects an evolution of available jobs, and the need to capture the high-wage jobs of tomorrow, which will require a workforce that is technologically proficient and highly skilled.
Specific to Alachua County, the Florida Chamber’s research shows that 24,164 new jobs will be needed by 2030, and that of 22 Florida regions, the Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) scored 22nd for the diversity of industries in our economy. This is important because recent research suggests that industrially diverse regions typically show more economic resilience during times of recession or economic shock, than regions with fewer industries.
