Annual India Fest and Health Fair Draws More Than 1,700April 11th, 2016 by gainesvillechamber
On April 9, more than 1,700 people gathered at Santa Fe College to experience the music, dance and cuisine of India at the 2016 India Fest & Health Fair. The Fair–which typically attracts 1,200 to 1,500 attendees, has been held annually since 2008. The Fair’s purpose is to connect Gainesville residents with Indian culture through performance, food and crafts.
Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Susan Davenport addressed the crowd, highlighting the success of Indian businesses in Gainesville, and underscoring her desire to see more Indian community events in the downtown area.
Another purpose of the fair is to connect the community with an opportunity to receive medical screenings and information. During the Health Fair, doctors with Indian backgrounds who practice medicine in the United States, offer free screenings and medical advice and answer health-related questions.
