Chamber Commends County Commissioners Chestnut and Pinkoson for Leadership on Envision AlachuaMarch 5th, 2016 by gainesvillechamber
Last week, the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners voted 3-2–with 2015 Chamber Public Leader Award recipient Commissioner Charles Chestnut and Commissioner Lee Pinkoson in dissent–to not transmit the proposed Envision Alachua Sector Plan to the state for review. The Chamber commends Commissioners Pinkoson and Chestnut for standing with local business, education and community leaders in their support for Envision Alachua.
Over the last five years, Envision Alachua has garnered support from leading communities organizations and entities in addition to the Chamber, including the University of Florida, Santa Fe College, the Builders Association of North Central Florida, the Gainesville-Alachua County Association of Realtors, the Alachua County Chapter of the NAACP, the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, the African American Accountability Alliance, the AKA Sorority Twenty Pearls Foundation, the Alachua County Local Planning Agency/Planning Commission and the Alachua County Economic Development Advisory Committee.
Chamber Board Chair-Elect Rory Causseaux issued this statement in response to the Commission’s decision.
