Chamber Launches Innovation Gainesville 2.0

Chamber Launches Innovation Gainesville 2.0

The next phase of Innovation Gainesville (iG) began Feb. 29 as the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce held the kickoff council meeting of iG 2.0. Developed in 2009, Innovation Gainesville (iG) was a community-wide initiative designed to connect people and regional assets around growing an innovation economy. iG transformed our cultural mindset towards innovation and made “cool things happen” in Greater Gainesville. Building on the success of the original iG, Innovation Gainesville 2.0 launched with 21 new advocates and a vision to identify our next generation of anchor companies.

Working with the Council for Economic Outreach (CEO), iG 2.0 will help drive the five-year economic development strategy, Transforming Greater Gainesville, bringing 3,500 new jobs and $250 million in capital investment to the region. Advocate teams represent each of the targeted industry sectors of the Greater Gainesville area: Advanced Logistics, Advanced Materials, Agricultural Life Sciences, Human Life Sciences, and Software/IT. Teams will work to identify and assist with recruitment of top companies to relocate or expand in Greater Gainesville.

iG 2.0’s inaugural year is co-chaired by David Whitney, Assistant Director, Engineering Innovation Institute, UF College of Engineering & Patti Breedlove, Director, UF Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator (retired). A mixture of new and original advocates, twenty one business and community leaders will represent iG 2.0 in 2016.
