Envision Alachua – What’s Next

The Chamber thanks the nearly 50 Greater Gainesville business and community leaders who stood up for economic prosperity, business growth and community progress on November 18 and 19, by calling on the Alachua County Planning Commission—in person, in writing and by phone—to recommend that the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners approve the Envision Alachua Sector Plan (EASP). After two days of deliberation,  Planning Commission Chair Jennifer Springfield and Commission members Eric Drummond, Susan McQuillan and Evan Pitts voted to recommend approval for the EASP.

EAThanks

The Planning Commission’s decision to support the approval of the EASP represents a win for our region and progress toward a vision of Greater Gainesville as a global hub of talent, innovation and opportunity.  But we’re not finished yet. As early as January 2016, the County Commission will hold a public hearing on the transmittal of the EAXP. The plan will be sent to the state for review and, depending on the outcome, will go back to the County Commission for adoption. Throughout this process, the Chamber will again call on the business community to speak up in support of the game-changing EASP. When the time comes, we hope we will be able to count on the voice of business—our members—to speak up again.

Let’s make it happen! In the meantime, visit www.envisionalachuaforbiz.com to add your name to the growing list of Envision Alachua supporters.
