Founding Member of Hippodrome Theatre Wins Florida Theatre AwardNovember 13th, 2015 by gainesvillechamber
Marilyn A. Wall is one of the Hippodrome Theatre’s most valued artistic treasures, and this year is no exception- Marilyn was just named the 2015 recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Florida’s Professional Theatre by the Florida Theatre Conference.
For over 43 years, Marilyn has given her artistic expertise to the Hippodrome. She was one of six founding members and helped establish the goal of presenting the best in challenging, contemporary theatre to Gainesville. As the costume designer-in- residence, Marilyn has costumed over 300 productions and has designed more than a thousand costumes for actors of all ages for theatre and film. She has dedicated herself to the arts and is the winner of two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Television Craft Excellence for Make-Up and Wardrobe. In addition to her beautiful costume designs, Marilyn has acted, director, crafted puppetry and has mentored many interns that have gone on to accomplish amazing work within theatres.
Marilyn will be recognized at the 60th Annual Florida Theatre Conference’s Closing Ceremony this Saturday, November 14 at Santa Fe College’s auditorium. This prestigious title was made possible through nominations and vote by the state’s theatrical peers and she is among a long list of distinguished past honorees.
In 1986, the Florida Theatre Conference began recognizing individuals in the state of Florida that had made a contributing effort in the area of Community Theatre, Professional Theatre, University/College Theatre, Theatre for Youth, and High School Theatre. Each year the Board solicits names from the general membership for these awards. Over the years, these awards have been given to persons in the state of Florida that have made a difference in their area.
Marilyn has made a huge impact at the Hippodrome and they applaud her for her countless years of dedicated, creative and artistic work.
