MTPO Ranks SW 62nd Blvd Connector Project as No. 1 PriorityOctober 9th, 2015 by gainesvillechamber
The Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization (MTPO) recently made the SW 62nd Blvd Connector project –which would create direct access between Newberry and Archer roads—the top priority for Surface Transportation Funds in its Year 2040 Long Range Transportation Cost Feasible Plan. The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce released a statement in June supporting this action. Since then, business and elected leaders throughout the region echoed support for the project.
“The Chamber is very pleased with the MTPO’s decision to establish SW 62nd Blvd as its top priority for Surface Transportation Funds, which achieves the Chamber’s goal,” said Kamal I. Latham, Vice President of Public Policy at the Gainesville Chamber. “A multi-modal transportation network is important for the smooth flow of people, services and goods in our region,” added Latham.
The SW 62nd Connector project reflects a public-private partnership to facilitate economic growth, alleviate traffic congestion, enhance response times for first responders and improve access to world-class health care services for residents and others in the region.
