Legislative Leaders Receive Update on Economic Development IncentivesOctober 30th, 2015 by gainesvillechamber
In April, Enterprise Florida President/CEO Bill Johnson spoke at the Council for Economic Outreach’s quarterly luncheon, outlining his vision for growing Florida’s global market presence through enhanced state marketing efforts and regional support and collaboration. A key component of state marketing efforts includes economic development incentives, which help the state compete to attract businesses seeking ideal relocation destinations.
Recently, Johnson joined Department of Economic Opportunity Executive Director Jesse Panuccio in presenting an update on the state’s economic development incentives to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development. The Committee is meeting for Interim Committee weeks leading up to the January onset of the 2016 Regular Legislative Session.
During the same meeting, Amy Baker, the state’s chief economist, presented a review of the state’s financially based economic development tools to the House Economic Development &Tourism Subcommittee. Baker outlined economic development programs and highlighted the tax-based incentives and return on investment these tools provide to the state. The House Subcommittee also heard the economic development incentives presentations from Panuccio and Johnson that were presented to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development on Tuesday.
