Gainesville business leaders get excited for Career Discoveries on Oct. 17th from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Loften High School
Students and parents from the Gainesville region are invited to participate in Career Discoveries on Oct. 17 at the Professional Academies Magnet at Loften High School. The purpose of this event is to educate participants on career opportunities and potential career pathways within our community.
Several members from the local business community, including RTI Surgical, Kidder Advisers, LLC, Gainesville Dev Academy and the University of Florida Center of Excellence for Regenerative Biotechnology, will speak on behalf of the following five industries.
- Advanced Logistics and Manufacturing
- Advanced Materials
- Agricultural Life Sciences
- Human Life Sciences
- Software and Information Technology
Career Discoveries also features industry break-out sessions, which include a minimum of two panelists from the business community. Gainesville’s business leaders are enthusiastic about the opportunity to interact with students and parents at Career Discoveries.
“Career Discoveries is an opportunity for young people and their families to explore the dynamic and diverse career opportunities that exist right here in our community in areas they may not even know exist,” said Elio Chiarelli with Kidder Advisors, LLC. Chiarelli is the featured speaker for the agricultural life sciences industry sector.
Career Discoveries is hosted by the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Talent Alignment and Education committee and the Alachua County Education Compact. The committee oversees the programs and projects of the Chamber’s workforce development division. The Alachua County Education Compact is a convening agent that supports the transformation and advancement of the education system in Alachua County.
“I am eager to see the positive impact this unique event will have on the youth and families of our community,” said President and CEO Susan Davenport of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce and Council for Economic Outreach. “Providing opportunities such as this one is vital to the development of a skilled talent pipeline and economic development initiatives to further our region.”
Career Discoveries will take place Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 3000 E. University Ave. All interested business professionals, middle and high school students and parents are welcomed to attend.
