Great prizes for ‘Battle of the Sexes’ blood drive

Battle Ads_FlyerLifeSouth Community Blood Centers will be hosting its Fifth Annual Battle of the Sexes blood drive competition June 22-26, and the ladies in North Florida will be trying to keep their record perfect.

“This marks our fifth year, and the ladies have won every year,” said LifeSouth North Florida District Director Dustin Scott. “The whole idea is to beat the heat and add a little fun to the challenge of avoiding a summer blood shortage.”

There will also be great daily prize drawings for the donors who come to any of the LifeSouth bloodmobiles or donor centers in North Florida. Prizes include a two-night stay at House of Sea and Sun B&B in St. Augustine, tickets to Wild Adventures, and two tickets to the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona.

“When school is out we are always challenged to keep up with the needs of our local hospitals, so a little competition always inspires people to give,” Scott said.

Donors must be at least 17 or 16 with parental permission, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. A photo ID is also required. All donors get a free T-shirt and a cholesterol screening.

LifeSouth donor centers in Gainesville are at 1221 NW 13th St. and 4039 Newberry Road. Other centers include: 6003 Crill Ave., Palatka; 15652 NW U.S. Highway 441, Suite F, Alachua; 2202 N. Young Blvd., Chiefland; and 833 SW State Road 47, Lake City.
