As Special Session Progresses, Tax Reform Package Advances in House

The Florida Legislature this week entered its second week of a 20-day Special Legislative Session after the House of Representatives’ Finance & Tax Committee approved $436 million in targeted tax reforms. Included in the tax cut package are Gainesville Area Chamber priorities including reductions to the communications services tax (CST) and the sales tax on commercial leases.

A delegation of Gainesville Area business leaders participated in a Chamber-led visit in March to the state Capitol to advocate for statewide business climate improvements, which included targeted tax reforms prioritized by the Gainesville Area Chamber.

Last week’s passage of the House’s tax relief package (HB 33-A) is just a step, however, in the process of the House and Senate crafting a balanced budget during the Special Session. Legislators have until June 20 to agree on and pass a state budget. We will provide updates on this issue as the current session progresses.
