Delegation Travels to Silicon Valley to Market Greater Gainesville as an IT HubMay 4th, 2015 by gainesvillechamber
Supporting our region’s rich and growing cluster of IT companies is a key opportunity to Transform Greater Gainesville. Our alignment around growing IT is spurring the area’s growth as a hub of talent, innovation and opportunity and the technology industry is taking notice. We also are home to the nation’s No.1 community college, the state’s preeminent university and most educated workforce and a 5-star accredited Chamber of Commerce. These and other factors make now the right time to tell the story of Greater Gainesville as a software and IT hub to the right audience, which includes Silicon Valley, arguably the nation’s strongest IT hub.
Last week, 18 representative businesses, the county, the city, the University of Florida and Santa Fe College traveled to Silicon Valley to visit 20 companies ranging in size from large, publicly traded corporations to mid-size privately traded companies to sow seeds of opportunity for the region. Delegates also visited investors and worked to identify some best practices that could help this region continue to grow as a tech hub.
Delegates report piquing serious interest among those visited. The Chamber will report any outcomes as they materialize.
