Outdoor Sports Review Network, Sportody, Represents Importance of Tech Industry Investments in Florida

On Wednesday, May 27, U.S. Representative Ted Yoho (R-FL-03) paid a visit to Sportody’s Gainesville office to get a firsthand view at entrepreneurs in the district. The invitation was extended by CareerSource North Central Florida, whose leadership staff, including Executive Director Kim Tesch-Vaught, joined Yoho for the tour.

CareerSource NCFL’s Healthcare Biomanufacturing Occupational and Technology Training Program (HBOTT) provides more than $3 million in reimbursable training funds for local unemployed or underemployed workers in healthcare, bioscience, advanced manufacturing and information technology occupations often filled by foreign workers. The H1-B Technical Skills Training grant is funded through the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration and allows employers to hire, train and retain eligible employees in permanent positions by providing reimbursement for on-the-job (OJT) training costs.

As of May 2015, HBOTT has helped create 312 positions at more than 20 businesses in the region, but the need for investment in Florida’s digital technology sector continues to grow.

A recipient of HBOTT funding, Sportody was selected for the Congressman’s tour to demonstrate how federal policies directly impact local businesses. Sportody’s online platform and mobile app help to promote outdoor tourism to and within the state.

“As our need for expansion continues to increase, we are grateful for programs such as HBOTT that help ensure achievement of our corporate goals and keep highly trained talent local,” says Sportody CEO Roger Catchpole.

Congressman Ted S.Yoho represents North Central Florida’s 3rd Congressional district and is serving his second term.
