STEAM: Building Blocks of Workforce, taking place Tuesday, April 21, couples a leadership seminar with a job fair to maximize opportunities for businesses and job seekers

In support of business growth and employment opportunities in industries requiring proficiency in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce will launch STEAM: Building Blocks of Workforce on Tuesday, April 21. This two-pronged, comprehensive event consists of a leadership seminar and job fair.

The leadership seminar will take place at the Hilton University of Florida (UF) conference center, 1714 SW 34th St., at 9 a.m. Doors open at 8 a.m.

High-energy, interactive and internationally renowned keynote speaker Connie Podesta will launch the seminar with an opening session focused on personality traits and communication styles. See her in action here. Afterward, Podesta will cater to employers in a specialized break-out session by sharing sales and recruiting strategies, while honing in on leadership development skills.

Human resources professionals will receive 1.5 general recertification credit hours from the HR Certification Institute for attending the leadership seminar. Click here to register. Event sponsor North Central Florida Society for Human Resource Management, whose mission is to be the collaborative resource and advocate for the human resource profession in North Central Florida, facilitated the recertification process. NCF SHRM is a nonprofit organization of human resource professionals from Gainesville and its surrounding communities.

“This event provides our member businesses with an opportunity to gain HR insight from an out-of-the-box speaker and to network within a fun and interactive atmosphere,” said NCF-SHRM President Jenna White. “At the job fair in the afternoon, companies that participate will have an opportunity to engage with prospective team members who will help advance their organizations.”

In a customized break-out session for job seekers, Podesta will share secrets on ways to outshine past performance, out-think old ideas and remain competitive in today’s ever-evolving workforce landscape. After receiving coaching and inspiration at the leadership seminar, attendees can head to the job fair and networking event with hiring companies in STEAM industries.

The job fair begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida, 3259 Hull Road. Employers, register to participate in the STEAM job fair and leadership seminar by April 14. The job fair is free and open to the public to attend.
