Take a Walk On the Wild Side…the Wildflower Side that is!
October 5th, 2012 by gainesvillechamberParticipants will enjoy a guided tour of the spectacular fall wildflowers that bloom in the piney woods of Morningside Nature Center. The Jean Dorney Memorial Wildflower Walks are free and will take place Saturdays in October. The walk on Oct. 6 will begin at 11:30 am and depart from the pavilion in the picnic area. The walks on Oct. 13, 20 and 27 will begin at 9 a.m. and depart from the Education Building. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water and field guides you would like to use.
Jean Dorney, a Texas native, moved her family to Gainesville in 1972. She quickly became involved with the Alachua Audubon Society and was a founding member of Friends of Nature Parks (formerly Friends of Morningside). Through the years, Jean was an active advocate of adult education programs at the nature parks and participated in many wildflower walks and natural history classes.
