Celebrating Partners in Education

Partners in Education from across the community gathered at Westwood Middle School’s cafeteria on Thursday, Oct. 18 to celebrate local businesses that have made a significant contribution to the schools in Alachua County. Kicking off the event, Rich Blaser, CEO of Infinite Energy and board member of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, spoke on behalf of the Chamber, the main sponsor for Partners in Education, where he welcomed business partners to the annual event. Following Blaser’s introduction, students from Williams Elementary made a presentation where they explained different ways for businesses to become more involved in schools. Suggestions presented by the students included donating snacks, joining the PTA, reading to students, sponsoring field trips, collecting school supplies and hosting an art show.

Dr. Dan Boyd, Superintendent for Alachua County Public Schools, thanked the partners and pointed out recent  achievements at local high schools. As for the future, Dr. Boyd stated that he looks forward to working with the Cade Museum and Gainesville’s growing innovation community. Following Dr. Boyd’s speech, partners were recognized and received an award for their efforts during the past year. Closing the event, partners were urged to continue supporting education and to read through the ballot for issues regarding education for the upcoming election.  If you would like to become an official Partner in Education, contact Kelley Kostamo at kostamkb@gm.sbac.edu or call 352.955.6900.
